Matthew L. Portillo, 36, of Chesapeake, VA, was called to rest Sunday, June 17, 2018.
Matthew is survived by his son Damien Portillo, daughter Kaylee Portillo, and their mother Holly Portillo, parents Charles and Robyne Pifer, sisters Melissa Pifer and Megan Pifer, niece Hannah, grandmother Katie Hernandez and in-laws Mickey and Jody Cummings. Matthew is predeceased by his father, Christopher Portillo.
Matthew was born January 24, 1982 in Germany. In 2002, Matthew proudly joined the Marine Corps and was assigned to the 4th Supply BN where he held the honor of Company High Shooter and gained lifelong brothers. Matthew began working for Carter Machinery in 2008, where he trained and mastered in several areas and was looking forward to an upcoming advancement that would bring new opportunities.
To know Matthew was to know that his life was centered on his family. Watching his children navigate life and celebrating who they are was his greatest joy and being their father his greatest pride. Matthew and Holly remained in love, best friends, and constants in each other’s lives. Matthew was a Momma’s boy, the jokester big brother, and a doting uncle. You could count on Matthew to be spending time on the range or taking a long back road ride on his Harley every chance that life allowed. Friends and family will miss his laugh, humor, and guaranteed sarcasm in all circumstances.
