Robert Jules Claxton, 84.

This old sailor has dropped anchor in this final port. The rough sea’s are behind him and he shipped out for his best tour of duty on April 11, 2018. He is now with his Lord and Savior.

Born in Brooklyn New York, he was christened at St. Albana Episocpal Church. He will be welcomed in heaven by many family and friends, especially his mother, Lillian Edith Claxton, who passed away when he was only three years old. He was also preceded in death by his father; Robert Marchant Claxton, two sons; William Stanley Claxton and Joseph McCurry Claxton.

Robert served our Country proudly in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. After serving in the U. S. Navy he began a short career in the medical field and later went on to retire with 20 years with Ford dealership.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #196, Chesapeake Shrine Club, Khedive Temple, Provost Guard and Scottish Rites. He enjoyed telling colorful stories, dancing, cooking, diving, and his annual Outer Banks vacations with his loving family.

He also coached Kempsville Little League baseball for 20 years and won several City championships with the help of a lot of gifted youngsters. He was an avid football, baseball and Nascar fan.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 37 years, Joan. Sons David T. Grizzard III, Daniel S. Grizzard and wife Janetta, daughter Dayna C. Kennedy and husband Nelson T. Lee Jr. Son, Robert (Robin) F. Claxton; and daughter Margie McMillen.

His zest for quick wit and helpful caring manner was an inspiration to others. His memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of all the many friends and family whose lives he has touched.

Also, left to cherish our beloved pee paw, pop pop and pook are his grandchildren; Travis, Kaylen, Christopher, Megan Grizzard and Daniel Johnson. Rest in peace pop-pop.

A graveside service will be at held at 1:30 pm, Monday April 16th, 2018 Forest Lawn Cemetery.
