Liwanag S. Ortiz from Cavite City, Philippines passed away March 30, 2018 at the age of 79. He was a retired veteran from the U.S. Navy and later from Stihl Corporation. He was an all Navy boxing champion for his weight class and even managed to compete in the Golden Glove at Madison Square Garden. Although a boxer and a fighter in spirit, Liwanag was a quiet, gentle, loving, and compassionate man who placed his family above all else. He cherished his wife and best friend, Josefina Q. Ortiz, for over 50 years. Their love for each other was pure and unconditional. Even after 50 years, they still held hands, laughed together, and genuinely enjoyed each others company. They were soul mates and he will be truly missed.
Liwanag was predeceased in death by his father, Filomeno Ortiz Sr, his mother, Tomasa Ortiz, and his oldest brother, Filomeno Ortiz Jr. He is survived by his wife, Josefina Ortiz; his two sons Dennis Ortiz and Ramon Ortiz; his two daughters Judy Gregg and Jennifer Turkel; his son in laws David Gregg and Lance Turkel; his grandchildren Kristin, Jacqueline, Aaron, and his little buddy Zoey; his great grandson Henry; his siblings David Ortiz, Elias Ortiz, Nestor Sinfuente, and Daisy Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
