Obituary for Joey Nelson Walters

Joey Nelson Walters
Longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Joey Nelson Walters passed away on January 29,2018. Joey is survived by his brother Allen Walters, sister in law, Whitney Walters, sister Janet Walters Wright and five nieces and nephew. Born March 10, 1956 to James Clarence Walters and Louise Coleman Walters Blackwell in Laurinburg, North Carolina. His parents are deceased. Raised in rural North Carolina, he joined the Navy in 1973 and was discharged in 1977. Through the Navy, he spent time on the island of Cuba learning the skill of skin diving that would help lead him into his life’s career and job working for Seaward Marine Services in Norfolk. While with Seaward Marine Joey lived his dream job. He traveled the world for work visiting Japan, Saudi Arabia, Florida, Maine, and California among other places. He got to work a job he loved and enjoyed for Seaward Marine Service for 40 years . Joey worked hard, and relished his free time by doing things he grew up loving and was fortunate enough to be able to continue thru his adult life. He was an avid hunter and deep sea fisherman. Two interests he shared with his father and brother. Joey always continued to learn new things. He liked to watch cooking shows, and cooking for you. He followed the stock market. If UNC’s basketball team was playing he knew it and was rooting loudly for them. His booming laughter could cheer a room up, and he used that laughter to charm everyone. Joey knew no strangers, not even as a child. He developed and grew rich, deep friendships and would give you help if needed it. Describing who Joey Nelson was, is hard. He was a friend, and worker who will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was a good son to his parents, a beloved brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He could be the sweetest man around and then be the most irritating one you ever knew. Even as you thought wringing his neck was the best remedy for him, you loved him deeply. (Only family members are allowed to say that, remember.) He was the baby of the family, a best friend and such a younger brother! His family will always feel the emptiness of where he should be. His family invites you to a celebration of Joey Nelson Walters’ life to be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 beginning at 7:00 pm. Location is Family Choice Burial & Cremation, 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach. In Lieu of flowers we’d like to suggest donations to be made to Children Hospital of the Kings Daughters or American Heart Association.
