Obituary for Jerald D. Johnston Sr.

Jerald D. Johnston Sr.
Jerald D. Johnston Sr. 83, passed away peacefully June 2, 2017.

Born in Roderfield, WV. He was the son of the late Elliott and Ethel Johnston. He was preceded in death by two sons; Jerald Johnston Jr. and Bryan K. Johnston and a brother Wallace Johnston.

Mr. Johnston served our country proudly in the U.S. Army and U.S. Airforce as a medic during the Korean War. After serving in the U.S. Armed Forces he joined the Norfolk Police Department as a beat cop. Jerald later went on to the Norfolk Public Works Department where he retired as a Engineering Inspector with over 30 years of service in the City of Norfolk.

He was a diehard Redskin fan and enjoyed his time on the computer reconnecting with old friends and reading his bible. Jerald’s biggest joy were his dogs Riley & Dolly that he treated like his babies. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Left to cherish his memory is: wife, Maryann Johnston; daughter, Janetta Grizzard and husband Daniel; daughter-in-law, Mary Sonesen and husband Erik; three grandchildren Darren Johnston and wife Renae, Christopher Grizzard and Megan Grizzard and four great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm, Thursday June 8, 2017 at 230 pm at Rosewood Memorial Park. Please share your condolences with the family at www.FamilyChoiceFunerals.com
