Jeanette Myers, 79, passed away on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 at her home in Virginia Beach, surrounded by her loving family. Jeanette was born on April 4th, 1938 in Alabama to James and Mary Weaver and was the wife of the late David W. Myers, Jr.
Jeanette grew up in Mobile County, Alabama and was a devoted daughter to her father James. A few years after his death, she moved to Memphis, Tn. One evening while having fun with her friends, a gentleman walked over to her and asked her to dance. He introduced himself as “Chuck” which was a radio announcer name that David used as a DJ. As they began to dance, he sternly advised her, “Don’t step on my boots.” This warning did not sit well with Jeanette as she thought he was arrogant and egotistical. Jeanette being Jeanette, promptly stepped on his boots and sat down. Like the cartoon caveman character, who clubs the woman he chose as his mate, stepping on Chuck’s boots, produced the same effect……this was the woman for him.
Unfortunately, Jeanette did not share the same viewpoint. She continued going out, having fun, only to discover Dave was waiting upon her return. His perseverance paid off as they were married three months later on September 16, 1955. They were married for 48 years until his death in 2003. During their 48 years together, Jeanette managed to turn every house into a home. She loved having her family around her, whether it was during the holidays or just Sunday dinner. Jeanette loved to cook for her family and although they were simple meals, her meatloaf and fried chicken was fantastic.
She is survived by her Daughter, Bonnie Clifford of Virginia Beach; Son Kelvin (Sherry) Myers of Portsmouth; Sisters, Marie Adair and Bernice Williamson of Mobile County, Alabama; Half Brother Sam Jr of Texas, Grandchildren, Kelvin Myers, Jr., Christina Myers, Jeff (Pamela) Clifford and Angela Myers; Great Grandchildren, Nathan Myers, Alexis Arrington, Layla Goodman, Michael Dobson, Jr. and Heather Dobson. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her best friends Shirley Ellison and Pat Scharr.
She was preceded in death by her husband David, son Michael, sisters Ruby Moody, Loretta Watson, Nancy Correll and her parents, James and Mary Weaver.
Jeanette will be laid to rest next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery. Please check back later for updated service information.
