Karen Sturgeon Lucas of Christiansburg, VA, passed away February 8, 2017, at Sentara Hospital, Williamsburg, VA, after an extended illness. Karen was born July 13, 1944 to Artie and Flossie Mae Sturgeon in Evansville, IN. She is pre-deceased by her parents and her sister, Pat Sharpe.
A graduate of Wytheville Community College (VA), Karen was a registered nurse for 30 years, serving as a floor nurse and Director of Nursing at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, VA. She loved her nursing career and was recognized on multiple occasions for her dedication and abilities.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Lucas; son, Jim Lucas and wife Lisa of Chesapeake (VA); daughters, Beth Crocker of Roanoke and Ryan Lucas of Pilot; and grandchildren Alan Crocker and Paige Crocker of Roanoke and Sebastian Lambert of Radford.
A graveside service for the family will be held February 14, 2017, at 11:30am at Carver Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
