Jane Frost Wayland flew with Angel escorts to the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. When Jane moved from Manassas to Virginia Beach in 1994, she declared she intended to “stay in this house until God called her home”. True to her word and the promises of God, “Miss Jane”, as she was lovingly known to so many, now happily and healthily resides in the mansion Jesus prepared for her in Glory! There is no doubt she was greeted and humbled by the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant”! And knowing Jane, she is already serving others in Heaven, most likely holding sweet babies and reading to children!
Jane was born on February 12, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Basil and Mildred Frost, and for 24 years, was the wife of the late Robert Wayland Jr. Jane earned her teaching degree from the University of Kentucky and a Masters in Administration from Peabody College. She taught first and second grade for many years, then became an Assistant Principal and Principal when those “glass ceilings” were just beginning to break. Jane retired at 55 from Prince William County Schools but stayed involved with the school system for several more years before her move to Virginia Beach. Jane attended and taught GA’s at First Baptist Norfolk until God asked her to help plant New Hope Church and subsequently, Essential Church, where she served joyfully for 16 years! Jane always proudly introduced herself to newcomers as “the Grandma of the church”; her smiling countenance and cuddly lap was appreciated and will be missed by so many!
Jane was blessed with so many loving friends and family who adored her. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and never hesitated to brag on them. Perhaps the highlight of her mortal life was having her grandson and granddaughter living around the corner for their childhood years. After Jesus Christ, she was her family’s greatest touchstone!
Jane became an avid traveler in mid-life, visiting many wonderful places around the U.S., Europe and Central America. In the days and years to come, Jane’s ashes will be returned to as many of those memorable destinations as possible.
